SAHA supported the production of the new work by Didem Pekün in the exhibition “Through the Fog: Descripting the Present” at the State of Concept in Athens held between 6 February–1 April 2016.
The group exhibition “Through the Fog: Descripting the Present” is curated by Nick Aikens, and includes works by six artists spanning video, photography and installation, many of them produced specifically for the exhibition or shown in Athens for the first time.
Across different countries and contexts an opaque, uncertain fog hangs over us. Within this haze, how can we visualize and articulate our own subject positions, modes of being and political agency in the world? “Through the fog: Descripting the Present” is an exhibition in essayistic form. A dialogue across contexts, temporalities and methodologies, it attempts to reflect on how we understand, speak to and move through an unfolding present.
The newly extended version of Didem Pekün’s two screen video “Of Dice and Men”, is presented with a series of video diaries from 2011–14 that convey the artist trying to process unraveling political events interlaced within a web of tangential reflections.

About Didem Pekün
Didem Pekün's work explores both research and practice; conceptually it deals with the production of subjectivities within violent geographies, displacement, and contemporary border politics. Her studio practice includes documentaries and video installations, and her work has been screened internationally at festivals and galleries, (Berlinale, Arnolfini, Oberhausen, Punto de Vista, WOMEX, MUSAC, SALT Istanbul) and has received and been nominated for awards, (British Council). She ha also attended residencies, suc as at Delfina and Greenhouse. Following a BA in Music at SOAS, and an MA on Screen Documentary at Goldsmiths, she is currently a practice-based PhD candidate in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths University and a faculty member at Media and Visual Arts Department at Koc University.
