Eda Gecikmez (b. 1984, Istanbul) explores bodies and spaces that are shaped, fragmented, and reproduced through diverse agents by working across various mediums such as painting, drawing, collage, and performance. She employs a visual language nourished by feminist and avant-garde traditions, tracing the relationships that form between the historical, textual, every day, mythic, and political realms without separating them from each other. Gecikmez graduated from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2010. During her undergraduate education, she studied for one year at San Carlos Faculty of Fine Arts, Valencia Polytechnic University in Spain. In 2015, she participated in artist residency programs at Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella, Italy; Kultivera, Tranås, Sweden; and in 2023 at ISCP, New York, USA. In 2016-2017, she attended the Home Workspace Art Education Program organized by AshkalAlwan, the Plastic Arts Association in Beirut, Lebanon. In 2019, she received her Master's degree in Art and Design from the Institute of Social Sciences at Yıldız Technical University. Most recently, in 2024, Gecikmez graduated from the Proficiency in Art Program in the Painting Department of Hacettepe University’s Fine Arts Institute and continues her practice between Istanbul and Ankara.
